The new phone family
At the Made by Google event held on 13 August 2026, Google introduced its new Pixel devices and Gemini-powered features. The event centred on a new smartphone family comprising the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold.
The entry model, the Pixel 11, arrives with a new camera bar more than 40 percent slimmer than the previous generation and finished entirely in glass. Base storage rises from 128GB to 256GB. Powered by the Tensor G6, the device has 12GB of RAM, a 48-megapixel main camera, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide and a 10.8-megapixel telephoto with 5x optical zoom. Google says the Tensor G6 delivers 25 percent better energy efficiency and 15 percent faster app launches. Offered in Frost, Hibiscus, Pistachio and Obsidian, it starts at $899 in the US, a $100 increase over the Pixel 10.
The Pro models and the foldable
The Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL come with 6.3-inch and 6.8-inch displays respectively. Both carry a 50-megapixel main camera, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide and a 48-megapixel telephoto. A new Pro Zoom feature uses generative AI to offer up to 120x zoom, while Instant Night Sight, supported by the Tensor G6, makes low-light capture 4.5 times faster than the previous generation. The Pro models also include 4K portrait video and Pro Stable Video, which engages automatically in shaky scenes. Google says the new display coating offers more than twice the scratch resistance of the Pixel 10 Pro models. A HiLight LED placed in the camera section can glow in different colours while Gemini is in use or when a call comes from designated contacts. Prices start at roughly $1,100 and $1,300.
The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is around 10 percent lighter and 1mm thinner than its predecessor. It has a 6.5-inch outer display and an 8-inch folding inner display. Google claims a fibreglass composite back cover and a redesigned hinge make the device three times more durable than the previous model, while IP68 water and dust resistance is retained. With a 48-megapixel main camera and up to 30x digital zoom, it will sell for $1,900.
Pixel Watch 5
The Pixel Watch 5 comes in 41mm and 45mm cases. Using the Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated processor, Google says it delivers 20 percent higher processing performance, and its dual-band GPS tracks routes twice as accurately in difficult urban environments. The watch also has offline Gemini support: users can manage alarms, timers and workouts by voice without an internet connection.
The health additions are as follows:
- The Google Health app will show blood pressure and insulin resistance trends in monthly reports.
- Sleep Breathing Quality monitors changes in blood oxygen during sleep.
- Breathing Emergency Detection can call for emergency help when the user is unresponsive and a continuous drop in oxygen level is detected.
Some features will initially be available in certain European countries and do not yet have FDA clearance. The 41mm model starts at $399 and the 45mm at $429; the Stephen Curry Edition is priced at $579.
Pixel Tag
Among the event's new products, Pixel Tag was developed to track the location of items such as keys, bags, wallets and suitcases. It works over Android's Find Hub network and can perform precise location tracking with ultra-wideband technology. Compatible with devices running Android 9 and above, it can be located from a Pixel Watch as well as from phones. Pixel Buds users can ask Gemini to find the tag or make it sound an alert.
The IP67-rated device uses a user-replaceable CR2032 battery, and Google says battery life exceeds a year. Pixel Tag costs $29, with a four-pack at $99. The product goes on sale on 11 November. Positioned against Apple's AirTag, its price advantage is a factor to be weighed alongside the coverage of the Find Hub network.
